One More Amazing
Fact About Bones

At the center of large bones is a softer tissue called marrow which produces two types of stem cells. Hematopoietic cells generate new red blood cells, white cells and platelets, while stromal cells produce fat, cartilage and bone and have the capability to differentiate into many other kinds of tissues such as nervous tissue.

For over 30 years bone marrow transplantation has helped a variety of cancers. New research is finding that heart tissue as well as brain tissue can be regenerated and that’s just the beginning. Stay tuned!

But that’s only half the story.

The body is comprised of approximately 206 bones – including 22 skull bones, and forms not only the framework, but is the protective armor for the organs. The bones of the skeleton are held together at joints by skeletal muscle and flexible types of connective tissues - cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. This amazing architecture moves with such synchronized precision – beauty and skill, and it is our goal to not only treat whatever disrupts this harmony, but to make our patients aware of and appreciate the miracle of the simplest motion. It’s a goal rarely stated in any medical practice, but we believe is an essential component to achieving superior results for each procedure. When both patient and doctor strive for more than mechanical proficiency true healing takes place.
